What’s it about: Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphos Beezelvrox, Trillium, and Marvin continue their travels through the galaxy and onto the Milliways, the restaurant at the end of the galaxy.
Main takeaway: Boy, Douglas Adam’s creativity has very limited bounds. He just thinks of so many interesting ways of thinking about the world. He’s really a comedian posing as a social commentator. Here’s a few:
A cow that WANTS to be eaten, and advises the best parts of its body. It was bred because people thought it inhuman to eat something that didn’t want to be eaten.
Ford commenting on a planet that was used in a game of intergalactic billiard and pocketed into a black hole, killing 10 billion. “Only scored 30 points.”
Or my favorite, on governments, “The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them."
Brilliant.
Excited to see what they get into next!
