By: Douglas Adams Finished: Late June, 2024.
What's it about: Arthur Dent is finally rescued off of a barren planet after a few years and is thrust back into space travel with Slartibartfast saving him and needing his help to "save the universe." Main Takeaway: Adams still has it. Although, this one was the toughest to follow in some ways, trying to track why the people of Krikket were so upset and/or how they came to be so technologically advanced. Eventually in a roundabout way it's explained a supercomputer wanted to destroy everything, so he was using them. I just listened to a podcast about the future of AI, and one of the interesting parts was about what would be considered "moral" about using an AI. Essentially, if something was superintelligent, would it be immoral to have them doing some meanial task. Essentially, that was the case in the book. The AI became so bored and disenchanted it decided to kill everyone. Eventually, it decides that it would just be better off gone, so it kills itself.
Two more books in the trilogy of 5! This needs to be a 10 part series!
